AUSTIN, Texas/LONDON -- When Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Western companies pulled out of the Russian market. But many others saw an opportunity.

Two months after the invasion, as Amazon, Apple and other U.S. tech giants were busy extricating themselves from Russia, Hank, who had been selling electronic components online in his native China, registered as a seller on Ozon.ru, the Russian e-commerce platform.
