Trump's third White House run is a political sprint to stay out of prison and he's burning millions of donor dollars to do it.

That's the view of former Donald Trump communications director Alyssa Farah Griffin, who appeared on CNN Thursday night and weighed in on why Trump's campaign is taking on water despite leading in the polls to notch the GOP nomination with voters.

But the mere fact that the candidate could become a convict should weigh hard on those lawmakers who Griffin blames for enabling the ex-president.

"The fault does lie with other elected Republicans for actually saying these cases were witch hunts," she said. "For not coming out and telling the God's honest truth that he mishandled classified documents or the truth about January 6."

She also admitted that MAGA faithful can't get past their belief that Trump can do no wrong, noting that his "die-hard fans" also "think this is a witch hunt and they need to be with him."

The blame game is widespread.

"So we are reaping what we're sowing here," Griffin added.

Meantime, she praised the harder-hitting Nikki Haley who appears to be taking it to Trump with her more direct hits on his character and criminal baggage.

What's more, this week it was learned that Trump has plunked down $50 million in legal fees for 2023.

For Griffin, sustaining that kind of overhead to fight an assortment of civil cases and the 91 charges in four criminal cases could spell defeat come Election Day, if he's able to hold off Haley and Lady Justice to stay in the race.

"So he's entering the general election not with the money he needs to win," she said.
